Adobe Analytics

The most powerful analytics on this list, sold the way enterprise software was sold in 2008.

The one fact worth knowing

Analysis Workspace remains the most capable ad-hoc analysis interface in the category, and almost nobody outside an enterprise will ever see it.

The verdict

Adobe Analytics is what you buy when analytics is somebody's whole job and the questions are genuinely hard. Analysis Workspace, its ad-hoc analysis canvas, is the most capable interface of its kind anywhere, and calculated metrics, segmentation and attribution modelling go deeper than anything else here. Descending from Omniture, it has been doing this since 1996 and it shows in the best way: the analytical model is mature and complete.

It is also the least accessible product on this list by a wide margin. Pricing is quoted, contracts are annual and large, implementation is a project measured in months with consultants attached, and the skill to use it well is a career rather than an afternoon.

What you actually get

The setup score of 1 is not hyperbole. A correct Adobe implementation involves a solution design reference, a data layer, tag management, report suite architecture and a governance model, and organisations routinely spend six figures on implementation before the first report. That is the correct amount of work for what they are trying to measure. It is simply not comparable to pasting a script tag.

Value scores a 3 because for all but a few hundred organisations, the money buys capability that will never be used. The honest failure mode here is not that Adobe is bad, it is that companies buy it as a status purchase, implement 5 per cent of it, and end up with worse decisions than a $9 tool would have given them, because the reports are too hard to open. If you are not sure you need this, you do not need this. And if a consent banner is a problem for you, note that every one of these costs applies on top of the same consent obligation GA4 carries.

Best for

Large organisations with a dedicated analytics function, complex attribution requirements, and the budget to implement and staff the thing properly.

Getting it running

A months-long implementation project: solution design, data layer, tag management, report suites, governance. Professional services are effectively mandatory.

What to watch out for

Pricing is not published and the contracts are annual and large. Implementation cost typically exceeds the licence in year one. The capability is routinely bought and not used. Cookies and consent obligations apply as with any enterprise suite.

Pricing and practicalities

Quoted annual contracts, normally six figures, with separate Adobe Experience Platform components sold alongside. Regional data residency options. Read 2026-09-11.

Who should go elsewhere

Anybody who cannot name the analyst who will own it, who should read Matomo for enterprise depth at a published price or Absolutely Analytics if the real question is how many people read the site. Also wrong for teams whose questions are product questions, where Amplitude is the better and far cheaper instrument.

How it compares

Against Google Analytics 4 the honest position is that Adobe is the better tool and GA4 is the better default, because GA4 is free and integrates with the ad platform most companies actually buy. Against Piwik PRO the comparison is enterprise depth against enterprise compliance.

The ten measures

Each measure is scored 0 to 10 and weighted. The overall figure is the weighted mean, and it is relative to the other 29 tools on this list rather than absolute. How this works.

  • Insight quality ×37
  • Privacy architecture ×24
  • Value for money ×23
  • Setup and time to data ×1.51
  • Script weight ×1.52
  • Analytical depth ×110
  • Behaviour tooling ×15
  • Data ownership ×17
  • Accuracy ×16
  • Vendor conduct ×14

What this rests on

Sources

Adobe's own product documentation for Analysis Workspace, calculated metrics and attribution, read 2026-09-11; published Adobe implementation guidance on solution design and data layers.

Evidence

Desk research against published product documentation. Pricing is not published, so the value score reflects publicly reported contract scale and the documented implementation burden rather than a quoted figure, and should be read as provisional.

This is a desk review. I have not been given access by the vendor, I have no commercial relationship with them, and everything above is my opinion rather than a statement of fact. If something here is wrong, tell me and I will correct it.
